YESTERDAY, TODAY, AND TOMORROW…
Mission Agape had its beginnings back in 2008 when several groups from Duluth’s Korean-American community teamed up to help Atlanta’s poor. The organization quickly grew and in 2012 we petitioned and received 501c3 Charity Status. We are an independent organization and not aligned with any religion or denomination. As such, our volunteers come from many different backgrounds. Our unofficial motto is “Though many backgrounds, we are one family”.
Throughout the years we’ve sponsored many different causes and activities while always remaining focused on our core missions. in 2010 we mobilized to help with the Haitian earthquake response. Our President, James Song led an effort to help Philippine children and their schools. We’ve sponsored activities in Panama and are presently supporting community outreach efforts in Peru and South Korea.
In 2013 we started a prison support ministry with the Smith State Prison in Savannah Georgia. Later in 2017 we transitioned this ministry over to the Ware State Prison in Waycross Georgia. Presently, our key focus areas include:
Up until 2020 our organization, its causes and its volunteers had been extremely active. Now that the pandemic has ended, we are looking forward to re-energizing back into our service communities.
Though greatly scaled back from the pandemic, Mission Agape has remained active during these challenging times. We’ve provided masks and hand sanitizers to our core mission partners. And while we have had to curtail providing hot Sunday meals (due to social distancing), we stepped forward with Saturday sandwiches.
Our 2021 goals are to emerge from this pandemic with a renewed sense of purpose. We wish to reinvigorate our homeless hot meal program, and re-initiate or re-imagine our coats program. We look forward to re-engaging our Ware State Prison program and hope to explore expanding our Peru outreach to the capital city of Lima.
