Mission Agape has partnered with Georgia’s Ware State Prison to provide day-long programs of outreach and support. We target two events per year – one in the spring and one in the fall. These events are high-spirited and often the highlight for both our members and inmates. For each event we will typically bring 50-70 volunteers from Atlanta to Waycross to prepare food and engage approximately 250 inmates in community enrichment. For many of the inmates, the highlight of the day is lunchtime when we serve our trademark golden baked chicken backed up with some serious saxophone entertainment. The afternoon is capped off with powerful testimonies, singing and spontaneous dance. These special events truly touch lives – both the inmates and our volunteers.
As our program team focuses on our outreach activities, the rest of our team continues to prepare food for the remaining inmates ~2000 meals. It is a very busy but rewarding day.
